Morley House (Proposal)

Gate and glazing for 314-322 Regent Street / Little Portland Street, London

Bronze

Commissioned by The Crown Estate, 2017

Architect: MSMR

This design is drawn from the history of the area as a retail hub for fashion and textiles and the use of Morley House as a milliner’s shop in the Edwardian era. The gate is formed from two curved panels which suggest the cylindrical shape of cotton reels, and the design is inspired by the criss-crossing pattern that is formed from thread wound round a spool.

The scalloped panels offer a contemporary compliment to the curved glazing either side which was employed in this early example of Art Deco architecture.
