Wall based sculpture for Chelsea Academy, Lotts Road, London
Shortlisted by RBKC, 2012
Architect: Feildon Clegg Bradley, Art consultant: Anne Elliot
The brief for Chelsea Academy required the artwork to reflect the Christian ethos as well as the Sciences specialism of the school. This installation is an interpretation of the rose window, a traditional arrangement in Christian architecture. The framework curves away from the wall in a shallow globe.
With the specialist science focus of the Academy in mind, the sculptural aspect of the work is inspired by the shape of the lens of an eye. This concave rise and fall in the design challenges the viewer's expectation of perfect symmetry and regularity.
